It's complete! We have our first signing of the Van Gaal era! This man:

Date of Birth: 14th August 1989 (Aged 24)
Height: 6 foot (1.82m)
Nationality: Spanish
Position: Centre midfield.

I think it's safe to say that we all delighted to have signed our first central midfielder for six years. Paul Scholes leaves big boots to fill!

So here's a few things you should know about Ander Herrera:

1. United signed him from Athletic Bilbao.
2. He has signed a four year contract.
3. The transfer fee is expected to be around the £29m mark.
4. Approaches for the player were said to be made during David Moyes' reign.

And here's some interesting things about him that you may not know:

1. Herrera was born in Bilbao, but his first club was Real Zaragoza.
2. He has played United on two separate occasions, featuring in both legs of the sides meeting in the Europa League in 2012.
3. He has represented Spain at U20, U21 and U23 level, but yet to make appear for the first team.
4. He scored for the Spain U21 team in the 2011 European Championship final.
5. If the transfer fee was the £29m suggested, he will be United's fourth most expensive signing, behind Rio Ferdinand, Dimitar Berbatov and Juan Mata.

I think this is a great capture for United, and with progress being made with Luke Shaw, it looks like there is going to be some serious cash spent this summer!
