After a disappointing season, I think we were all hoping that we would sign some players before the start of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
But, understandably, transfers have near enough been on halt due to the manager situation, with Louis Van Gaal occupied with his Netherlands national team. This does not stop the media speculation by any means. Almost every player and his mum has linked with a "shock move" to United this summer, names such as Reus, Pogba, Fabregas, Sanchez, Dante, Strootman, Kroos and even Suarez spring to mind.
I try to avoid these ridiculous rumours as much as possible, but as you may be aware, that isn't always easy when Facebook and Twitter are part of your daily routines.
One player that we have been linked with (that has a solid foundation to it) is Southampton youngster Luke Shaw. I know what you're thinking - "Young and English. He won't be cheap." And you'd be right. Apparently, an offer of approximately 27 million has been rejected already, despite Shaw's claimed desired to join us.
Now, yes, that is a lot of money for an 18 year old lad who has only recently been called up to represent his country at an international level, however, with current left-back, Patrice Evra, signing on for another year, Shaw could greatly benefit from training with Evra and splitting game time for a season to help nurture his potential. Admittedly, Patrice Evra is past his best. He is still great going forward but no longer so great at his primary job of defending. He has been a fantastic servant to this club and one of the best left-backs of the Premier League era. It would be fitting if he were to help mould his successor.
So what are your thoughts? Would he make a good signing? Who else would you like to see Ed Woodward pursue?
